Amrita

Since 2005, Amrita Jhaveri has been advising collectors, curators, and gallerists on aspects of Indian modern and contemporary art. Jhaveri established Christie’s presence in India in the mid-1990s, before moving to London as a senior specialist in Indian contemporary art. In 2005, she wrote 101: A Guide to 101 Modern & Contemporary Indian Artists (India Book House). She formed an independent consultancy the same year.

As an expert and a market commentator, Jhaveri is often called upon to share her knowledge and experience of Indian art in public forums. She has covered a range of topics from aspects of Indian modern and contemporary art to the history of collecting in India. Organizations that have invited her to speak include Brown University (Rhode Island, USA), Sotheby’s Institute of Art (London), The School of Oriental and African Studies (London), Christie’s (New York), The India Art Summit (New Delhi), Saffronart.com (Mumbai and London), and ARCO (Madrid).

A respected collector in her own right, Jhaveri has loaned works from her private collection of Indian art to institutions such as The National Gallery of Modern Art (Mumbai), Tate Britain (London), IVAM (Valencia), Museo Reina Sofia (Madrid), Kunstmuseum (Bern), and the Museum of Contemporary Art (Tokyo), among others.
